FIJI Airports is investing in passenger convenience at Nadi International Airport with three new cell phone charging stations to be installed in the International Departure Lounge.
The project, supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Fiji Office, follows passenger feedback calling for more accessible charging facilities.
Fiji Airports chief executive officer Mesake Nawari said the initiative demonstrated how passenger feedback could inform improvements at the country’s main international gateway.
“Our passengers told us they wanted more convenient and accessible places to charge their devices while travelling,” Mr Nawari said.
“With the support of KOICA, we are pleased to respond to that feedback with three new charging stations that will directly benefit our travelling public,” he said.
The initiative began after KOICA approached Fiji Airports in 2025 to identify opportunities for a small-scale project at Nadi International Airport.
Fiji Airports proposed the charging stations after identifying mobile-device charging as a practical need for passengers waiting for flights.
Mr Nawari said improving passenger services remained an important focus for Fiji Airports.
The project also adds to growing aviation cooperation between Fiji and the Republic of Korea.
Earlier this month, Fiji Airports signed a memorandum of understanding with Incheon International Airport Corporation, providing a framework for further cooperation between the two aviation organisations.
KOICA Fiji country director Hankyulsam Cho said the charging stations addressed an every day need for international travellers.
“Mobile phones are an essential part of travel, whether passengers are accessing boarding passes and flight information, arranging transportation or staying connected with family and friends,” Ms Cho said.
“We hope these facilities will provide passengers with greater convenience and peace of mind while waiting for their flights.”
She said the project demonstrated Korea’s focus on practical development cooperation that responded to local needs.
Once installed, the three charging stations will be available to passengers in the International Departure Lounge.
