A FIRE broke out at the MaxValue supermarket in Tavua Town yesterday morning, leaving firefighters locked in a intense struggle to contain the flames and protect neighbouring businesses.
The alarm was first raised early in the morning, prompting an immediate deployment of emergency crews from the National Fire Authority to the commercial district.
National Fire Authority’s CEO Puamau Sowane confirmed that emergency crews were dispatched promptly to respond to the unfolding emergency.
“The update I received from the team was that they got the call at 6.55am,”he said.
Upon arrival, first responders encountered heavy smoke pouring from the building, forcing them to find alternative entry points to tackle the seat of the fire directly.
“The initial report says that the officers managed to enter from the back through the roller shutter.”
Despite the dense smoke reducing visibility and creating hazardous conditions inside the supermarket structure, crews pressed forward into the building to suppress the flames before they could break through to adjoining commercial properties.
Firefighters remained on the scene throughout the morning as crews worked to fully contain the blaze and secure the perimeter. The threat to surrounding shops remained a primary concern for operational teams on the ground.
