The wait is almost over, with the 2026 Extra Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship set to kick off at Subrail Park in Labasa tomorrow.
The four-day national championship will bring together 56 teams from across Fiji, with more than 1500 students, teachers and officials expected to converge on the North for the tournament.
With national honours at stake, the opening day will provide teams with their first opportunity to lay down a marker in their respective grades.
The tournament will feature competition in the under-15, U17, U19 and girls categories, with schools determined to make a strong start to their campaigns.
The U19 competition will be particularly intriguing, with a new champion guaranteed after defending champions Tabia College failed to qualify.
The U17 title will also have a new winner, with defending champions Labasa College missing out.
Northern schools will be looking to make the most of home conditions, while teams from Viti Levu will be eager to challenge for national supremacy.
The action continues through Saturday, with the knockout stages scheduled for Friday before the finals on Saturday.
