NAMOLI West Tigers held their nerve in a thrilling extra-time finish to defeat USP Raiders 38-34 in the FNRLW Premiership semi-final at Burchurst Park in Suva on Saturday.
The lead changed hands throughout a tense contest before the scores were locked at fulltime, forcing the match into extra time.
The Tigers then struck twice to secure victory and a place in next week’s final against Army Bears.
Namoli West head coach Tuliana Ragadi said her side respected the threat posed by a USP team with greater rugby league experience.
“We did not underestimate USP. We knew they were all rugby league players, while most of our players come from a rugby union background,” Ragadi said.
The coach said sticking to their game plan proved decisive when the pressure mounted.
“Our motto from the beginning was to take one game at a time.
“When the match was getting tough, we stayed true to our game plan — keep working until the final minute, no matter what the points on the board were.”
Ragadi said the Tigers would address their weaknesses before facing Army Bears.
“We will reset, work on our weaknesses and come prepared for Army Bears.”
She dedicated the win to the team’s families, supporters and administration for their continued backing.
