MALOLO coach Rupeni Nahiga says poor decision-making cost his side after they suffered a narrow 31–27 defeat to Suva in their Round 8 Skipper Cup clash.
Nahiga said his players put in a strong effort against a tough Suva side but were let down by simple mistakes at crucial moments.
“First, I would like to thank the Lord and the boys for the great effort today,” he said.
“We expected it to be a very tough game.”
Despite the four-point loss, Nahiga believed Malolo had put Suva under pressure but failed to make the right decisions when it mattered most.
He said the side needed to improve its decision-making, particularly when choosing where to play during matches.
“There are a lot of simple mistakes. A little bit that we catch up on is where we choose to play,” Nahiga said.
He said the team would need to address those areas as it prepares for its next challenge.
Malolo will face Nadi in Round 9 next week, with Nahiga saying his players would work hard to improve their performance.
The coach also thanked the supporters who turned out in numbers despite the poor weather, acknowledging the encouragement they provided throughout the match.
He dismissed suggestions that the match officials were responsible for the defeat, saying Malolo needed to focus on its own performance.
“We can’t blame the match-officials. We just have to work hard and do our things right,” he said.
Nahiga thanked the fans for their continued support and promised the team would return determined to perform better next week.
“We thank you for the support, and we will come back next week,” he said.
