A DELEGATION of manufacturers and enterprises from Guangdong Province in China staged a trade exhibition at the GPH in Suva yesterday, displaying latest innovation in smart home appliances, robotic technology, lighting, hardware and renewable energy products.
The delegation, led by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), is here as part of their Guangdong Products Roadshow for Pacific Island Countries and Economic Trade Exchange conference.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industry and Commerce Manoa Kamikamica said this year’s theme – ‘Smart manufacturing in Guangdong, green development for Fiji’ was timely.
He said Guangdong had established itself as one of China’s leading centres of manufacturing, innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.
“Its experience in advanced manufacturing, digital technology, renewable energy, smart appliances and industrial development provides valuable lessons for economies seeking to improve productivity while responding to the challenges of a rapidly changing global environment,” Mr Kamikamica said.
“Fiji, meanwhile, is pursuing a development pathway that places strong emphasis on sustainability, renewable energy, climate resilience, environmental responsibility and inclusive economic growth.
“We, therefore, see considerable potential for these priorities to complement one another. For Fiji, the question is not simply how we can access new products and technologies. It is also about how we can learn, adapt, build local capability and create lasting economic opportunities for our people. That is where partnerships such as this become particularly important.”
Mr Kamikamica said events like this roadshow was designed to produce real and measurable benefit for both countries.
For Fiji, engagement of this scale translates into new jobs for our people, technology transfer that builds local capacity, and wider access to affordable and quality goods that support manufacturing, construction and agricultural sectors.
Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Fiji Charge’d De ‘Affaires Wang Yuan commended the exhibition saying this was a good example of growing practical engagements between China and Fiji.
“I hope businesses from China and Fiji will make full use of this platform to strengthen commercial ties, identify areas of genuine complementarity, and unlock new opportunities in trade, investment and other sectors,” Mr Yuan said.
On display yesterday at the roadshow were AI robots, robotic dogs and drone models to smart wearable devices, mobile communication products, clean energy and energy storage equipment, lighting products, digital accessories and household appliances.
