The Ministry of Policing and Communications and the Ministry of Industries, Commerce and Business Development announced a total of 1000 Google Career Certificate scholarships are being made available to Fijians.
The announcement was made in a joint meeting hosted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industries Manoa Kamikamica, Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua and Google’s director of Submarine Product & Service Innovation Shirshendu Bhattacharya.
These scholarships are aligned with the upskilling targets under the National Digital Strategy’s thematic area on digital inclusion and empowerment.
By expanding access to job-ready digital skills, empowering citizens through structured digital literacy programs, and promoting inclusive participation in the growing digital economy.
Google Career Certificates offer flexible, job-ready training in high-growth fields including AI, cybersecurity, data analytics, IT support, project management, and UX design.
Requiring no prior degree or experience, these certificates intend to equip learners with practical skills to gain technology employment, build new ventures, and modernise local industries.
The 1000 scholarships will be distributed through two primary government channels:
• 700 scholarships — Digital Government Transformation Office (Ministry of Policing and Communications)
– Tranche 1 (500 scholarships): 300 scholarships made available to the public for individual skills development, and 200 dedicated to upskilling civil servants.
– Tranche 2 (200 scholarships): To be administered following the successful completion of Tranche 1.
• 300 scholarships — Ministry of Industries, Commerce and Business Development
– Dedicated specifically to upskilling MSME and cooperative owners and their staff.
The Government recognises Google’s ongoing commitment to Fiji, building upon their investments in subsea landing cables and building Google’s ICT facility, and looks forward to ongoing cooperation between both parties.
The two ministries will announce application criteria, guidelines, and timelines in the coming weeks.
