A FAMILY living in Vunivacea, Labasa has been waiting for two months for a water truck to deliver water as the prolonged dry spell continues to affect the community.

Resident Sunita Devi said her family normally relied on a well for their water needs, but the dry weather had caused the water catchment and other sources in the area to dry up.

Ms Devi said the family had requested a water truck, but it had yet to arrive.

“Two months,” Devi said when asked how long they had been waiting.

The mother of two lives with her husband and children.

With the dry spell continuing, residents are becoming increasingly dependent on outside assistance as their usual water sources run low.

She said her family had limited options when they needed additional water.

“The situation is part of wider water difficulties being faced by residents in Vunivacea, where wells and water catchments are being affected by the lack of rain.”

“For us, the prolonged dry spell has made access to water increasingly difficult.”

She said the community was now waiting for the water trucks to arrive.
