After months of treatment and rehabilitation in Fiji and Australia, Pio Tikoduadua’s daughter is finally home with her children.
Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua has shared an emotional family milestone, announcing that his daughter has returned home after five months apart from her children.
In a social media post, Mr Tikoduadua said seeing his daughter reunited with her children was a moment the family had been waiting and praying for.
“After five months apart, the children are finally back with their mum,” he said.
His daughter, a police officer, suffered critical injuries while on duty at the Laqere checkpoint on April 25, when a vehicle allegedly rammed into her during a police pursuit.
She sustained multiple serious injuries, including fractures to her right arm and leg, a fractured left knee and significant internal injuries. Her condition was so severe that she was placed in an induced coma for five weeks to allow doctors to operate and provide treatment.
She subsequently underwent months of treatment and rehabilitation in Fiji and Australia, including at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva and Epworth Hospital in Melbourne.
Mr Tikoduadua expressed special appreciation to orthopaedic nurses John Lewis and Rachael from Epworth Hospital, who accompanied his daughter on her journey home from Melbourne.
He also thanked everyone who sent messages, offered prayers and personally shared words of encouragement with the family.
“Your kindness and support have meant more to our family than words can express,” he said.
“For today, we are simply grateful that she is home.”
