THE Wardens women’s team is hoping for a good outing at the Marist 7s tournament.
Team manageress Losalini Bolatagici said they had a bunch of dedicated players who were committed to the sport simply because of their love of rugby.
“The team was just formed before the Marist 7s tournament last year and we’ve had only two outings —— the Marist 7s and the Coral Coast 7s this year.
“While we finished as the finalist in the Marist 7s tournament last year, the team then comprised of many civilians.
“We took ownership of the team this year and we marched into the Coral Coast 7s with a group of inexperienced ruggers yet committed to the sport.
“Many had their first taste of rugby then and we lost in the final of the plate competition. Still that was an achievement for us and we continue to look at areas of improvement and growth for the side,” Bolatagici said.
Losalini said they had a group of talented and skilful players but what they lack was the exposure.
“But we managed to have a few buildup games to prepare this side to this much awaited tournament. Though we come in as leader of Pool B, we have much respect for our opponents the established rugby teams which had been around for a while.
“The girls are looking forward to the tournament and they know the task ahead is not easy. They will go out there and give it their all. Giving their best is all that matters,” she said.
Unfortunately, Corrections Officer Raijeli Daveua, who is in the national side had been training with the team, but they received the news yesterday from FRU that she could not participate as she needs to fully recover from a hamstring strain. The team is coached by former national 7s rep Lemeki Koroi.
The team is pooled with Marist Seahawks 1, Central Chiefs and Mystics Knights.
