The Fiji Police Force has confirmed that the investigation into the death of Jone Vakarisi has now been classified as murder.
Police say investigators are currently gathering information to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.
“The investigation into the death of Jone Vakarisi has been classified as murder. Investigators are in the process of gathering information to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the victim’s death,” the statement said.
Authorities added that the heads of the two institutions involved have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation.
“They are appealing once again to members of the public to allow the investigative process to run its course,” the statement added.
Police have not released further details at this stage as inquiries continue.
