A SPECIAL series of commemorative stamps honouring the girmitiyas will be launched during the 147th National Girmit Commemoration on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Designed to capture the journey, sacrifices, and contributions of the girmitiyas, the stamps also recognise the traditions, culture, and heritage that continue to shape Fiji’s identity today.
Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts Charan Jeath Singh said the initiative is meaningful for Fiji’s diaspora community, helping preserve an important chapter of Fiji’s history for future generations.
He said the national commemoration program will be broadcast virtually from the Fiji Museum, allowing Fijians both locally and abroad to take part in celebrating the enduring legacy of the girmitiyas.
