SINGLE mum, Melaia Kawaicei, 40, wasn’t able to afford a proper bed for her three children due to financial problems.
But through the assistance of South Pacific Business Development (SPBD), she was able to purchase a new bed for her children from income earned, selling basic food items in the village of Vorovoro, Tailevu.
“For years, we have been sleeping on the floor,” she said in a statement.
“I managed to buy a new bed for my children, with the income earned from my small canteen, which I opened from a SPBD loan.
“Now they sleep comfortably on their bed at night and that makes me happy.
“It has been a struggle for me, looking after my three children.”
Before opening her canteen, Ms Kawaicei said she was a market vendor.
“Our family is very poor. I did whatever I could to provide food and send my children to school.”
