EUGENE Vollmer, the current men’s national triple jump record holder, has praised Team Fiji’s outstanding performance at the 2026 Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin, Australia.
As an officially sanctioned World Athletics event, the competition has seen Team Fiji secure three silver medals in the javelin.
“This achievement speaks volumes about the incredible talent blossoming among our young athletes, and it highlights the exceptional expertise of our current javelin coaches,” Vollmer said.
“It’s a true testament to the foundation the organisation is building, and it bodes well for the Pacific Games next year.”
The first medal for Fiji came courtesy of Iosefo Rakesa, who claimed silver in the Ambulant Men’s Javelin on the opening day with a throw of 27.81 metres.
Ebenezer Saukuru continued the momentum, earning silver in the U18 boys’ javelin final with a personal best of 62.16 metres.
Salanieta Vereivalu clinched Fiji’s third silver in the girls’ U18 javelin final, marking a personal best of 47.08 metres.
