AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND defender Michael Boffey will bring international experience to Extra Bula FC after signing with the club for the 2027 OFC Professional League season.

The 23-year-old left-footed centre-back joins the Bula Warriors following a season with Bentleigh Greens in Australia’s National Premier Leagues Victoria, where he made 21 starts.

Boffey has played in Australia, Spain and the United Arab Emirates, experiences he believes have strengthened his defensive ability and technical skills.

He previously played for FC Málaga City under-19s and CD Almuñécar City in Spain, where he was part of a league-winning and promotion-winning campaign in 2022.

His career also includes a stint with Dubai City FC before returning to Australia, where he represented several NPL Victoria clubs, including Dandenong Thunder, Northcote City and Preston Lions.

Boffey said joining Extra Bula FC was an important step towards his ambition of playing professional football.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me personally and something I’ve been working towards for a very long time,” he said.

He was attracted by the club’s ambition and the opportunity to help it build on its inaugural professional season.

Boffey describes himself as an aggressive and vocal defender who is comfortable playing in a back three or on the left side of central defence.

He hopes to establish himself as a dependable member of the squad and help the club compete for silverware.

Boffey also has fond memories of visiting Fiji as a child and is looking forward to reconnecting with its people and culture.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and representing the club. I’ll give everything I have every time I put the shirt on,” he said.
