THE Lami Coastal Sharks are set to make a strong impression at the Vodafone Central 1 Kaji and Kajiana Championships, hosting two competitive Kajiana teams at the Saint Marcellin grounds in Vatuwaqa.
Representing the pride of their schools, families, and the vibrant Lami district, the Sharks’ under-13 and U14 Kajiana teams are ready to showcase their skills and determination.
The squads, featuring talented girls from Saint Thomas Aquinas Primary School in Navesi and Marist Convent School in Lami, have trained relentlessly in preparation for the challenge ahead.
Head coach of the U14 team, Phillip Fong, emphasized that while results are important, the main focus is on exposure and experience.
“Exposure is our primary goal for both teams in this competition,” Fong said.
“This championship offers a fantastic platform for our girls to demonstrate their talent against the best teams in the central division.” The Sharks’ U14 team kicked off their campaign with a thrilling win, narrowly defeating Serua 10-5 in their opening match.
For team captain Sarafina Bainivalu, the victory was deeply emotional.
“We didn’t expect to start with a win, but I’m so proud of how the team worked together on the field. We also give thanks to the Almighty for this blessing,” she shared.
For these young athletes, representing their schools and families on such a prestigious stage is a tremendous honor. They expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported and believed in their rugby journey.
As the competition continues, the Lami Coastal Sharks are focused on learning, growing, and embracing rugby in its fullest form—with eyes set on returning stronger and ready to prove their mettle in the future.
