A PERSISTENT trend in the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s percentage achievement has indicated that they began every year below the government average percentage from the 2013 to 2015.
This was revealed by the 2015 Ministry of Youth and Sports annual report that was submitted to the standing committee that was chaired by parliamentarian Viam Pillay in Suva last week.
Despite scoring high percentage marks at the end of each year, the report showed the ministry’s seemed to slow start at the beginning of each year and the trend has continued for three years straight.
“2013- quarter 1(Q1) 58.15% and quarter 4 (Q4) 97.15% whereas for 2014 the first quarter recorded 45.76% later ending with on the final quarter of the year 96.05% as for the year 2015-(Q1) 41.84% and (Q4) 98.6%,” the report stated.
It indicated that at the beginning of every year the ministry has failed to meet the Government percentage average, but have managed to make a steady climb in their performance achievement rating from the second quarter onwards.
Their report also indicated that the fourth quarter performance percentage achievement for 2015 was the highest recorded out of the three years and 2014 being the lowest.
“2013 four quarter performance percentage achievement 97.15%, 2014 performance percentage achievement 93.68% and 2015 performance percentage achievement 98.6%.”
Youth and Sports Ministry Permanent Secretary Allison Burchell acknowledged the performance of their staff of achievement for the 2015, in a statement she made in the 2015 annual report.
“This achievement speaks volumes about the commitment of the Ministry and our staff to fulfil our role as the leading agent for targeted youth and sports development programs and activities,” Burchell said in the 2015 Annual report.
