The Sugar Research Institute of Fiji (SRIF) has appointed Dr Shalendra Prasad as its new Chief Executive Officer.
SRIF chairman Stanley Raniga said Dr Prasad brings more than 20 years of experience in agricultural research and development, including senior leadership experience within government.
“Dr Prasad’s knowledge and experience will support SRIF’s continuing work in sugarcane research, productivity improvement, technology transfer, sustainable farming and industry collaboration,” Mr Raniga said.
Dr Prasad previously served as Director of Research and Agricultural Scientific Services within the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways.
He holds a PhD in Horticulture from the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia.
Mr Raniga said Dr Prasad’s experience spans research leadership, policy development, technology transfer, crop production and stakeholder engagement.
He has also worked closely with farmers, researchers, government agencies, academic institutions and development partners.
“The Board is confident that his leadership will further strengthen SRIF and its contribution to the development and long-term sustainability of the industry,” Mr Raniga said.
