A former employee of Pacific Cement Pte Ltd charged with stealing over $60,000 from the company appeared in the Suva Magistrate’s Court today to enter a plea, but defence lawyer Yogen Kumar indicated they are exploring a progressive approach and restitution options.
Shalesh Prasad faces one count of theft. It is alleged that between January 28 and May 5, 2025, in Lami, he dishonestly appropriated $65,412 in cash belonging to Pacific Cement Pte Ltd.
When the case was called before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne today, Mr Kumar informed the court that discussions are ongoing regarding taking a progressive approach to the matter, including the possibility of making restitution.
Mr Kumar requested time to finalise discussions and confirm their position regarding the plea and proposed restitution process.
Magistrate Somaratne adjourned the matter to October 22 for confirmation on the defence’s position.
Prasad’s bail has been extended.
