Entering the pool with island pride are six of the Cook Islands’ top swimmers, set to compete at the 2026 Oceania Swimming Championships, held in the Damodar City National Aquatic Centre.
Despite not having a home pool in their island nation, Head Coach Horst Miehe and his team enter the tournament with quiet confidence and humble determination as they carry hope of reaching the finals and, if the opportunity comes, fighting proudly for a medal.
Earlier this year, the swimmers tested themselves at a high level, competing at either the New Zealand HP Championships and the Australian Age or Australian Open Championships.
With valuable experience gained, Miehe noted that the athletes’ preparations have been a “solid step” into the championship season.
“All the results have been really good, leading them into this event,” said Miehe.
The swimmers are proud to represent their home country and look forward to competing at this week’s regional meet.
