NAMAKA Public School departed Suva last Saturday with a collection of 20 medals from the Fiji National Schools Swimming Championships.
The male swimmers scooped five gold, six silver and two bronze medals while the female swimmers won four gold, one silver and two bronze.
Gearing up for the competition meant training at the Nadi Sports Club when it was available and mentoring sessions held at the school grounds.
A standout aspect of the school’s journey was that most swimmers donning its colours were not part of any swim clubs but were students who raised their hands to compete in the championships this year.
Joe Tamani, a parent who accompanied the swim team to Suva, said most of them lived in villages around Nadi such as Nawaka and Narewa.
These swimmers were also making their debut in the water at the competition and had garnered enough success to leave Suva victorious when competition finished on Saturday.
