THE Suva rugby women’s team held off points table leaders Namosi to win 36-24, in round eight of the Subrails Marama Cup championship at the Suva Grammar School ground yesterday.
Suva maintained its composure and worked hard throughout the match to secure a decisive victory.
Namosi crossed the try line first in the opening of the first half, and Suva then replied with four tries, extending their lead to 22-5 before the first half ended.
Coming into the second half, Namosi broke early by scoring two converted tries, putting them back into the game.
Suva captain Luisa Tisolo credited her teammates and the team management for the effort they put in during the match.
“I thank the management for the preparation during the week and the girls for the effort given to today’s match,” Tisolo said.
Tisolo said the team was able to execute the game plan they had worked on during their training sessions and remained focused despite the conditions.
“At half-time, I reminded the girls never to underestimate any team and treat every match as their final,” she said.
She said the message was important as Namosi continued to challenge Suva throughout the encounter.
Tisolo also added that despite the victory, there were still areas that needed improvement.
Suva will face Macuata this week, in round nine.
