A MAN, who stole four yaqona plants valued at $2000 from his cousin, has been sentenced to six months and 15 days in prison.
Nemia Vuna was sentenced last week by Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci at the Rakiraki Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to theft and breach of bail.
The court heard that Vuna stole the four two-year-old yaqona plants from his cousin, Marika Delai, while on strict bail for two other criminal cases.
Vuna sold the stolen yaqona for $500 and used the money.
For the theft charge, Vuna was sentenced to 15 months and 15 days’ imprisonment, with six months and 15 days to be served immediately and the remaining nine months suspended for three years.
Vuna was also sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for breaching bail, to be served concurrently.
