MAGODRO District School athletes (pictured) overcame a challenging two-week preparation period and a journey from the highlands of Nadi to compete at the Nadi Primary Schools Athletics Competition at Prince Charles Park, which ended on Wednesday.
Acting assistant head teacher Marieta Vosavakadua said preparations were challenging, with teachers balancing athletics training and commitments towards the Year Eight examinations.
Vosavakadua said the school had only two weeks to prepare its athletes before travelling to Nadi for the two-day competition.
“Our preparation in the highlands only took us two weeks because of our commitments towards the Year Eight examinations,” she said.
She said the team also had to adjust to the change in weather conditions, moving from the cold highlands to Nadi’s hot climate.
Vosavakadua acknowledged the dedication of the parents, former students, the people of Nawaka, teachers, school management and head teacher in ensuring the athletes were prepared for the competition despite the challenges.
She said the support and commitment of the school community had played an important role in making the trip possible.
Vosavakadua also credited their faith for giving the team strength and energy throughout the event.
