THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua have officially announced the signing of experienced Flying Fijian playmaker Ben Volavola to their main squad.
His inclusion strengthens the Drua’s fly-half stocks ahead of the 2027 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.
Volavola returns home as one of Fiji’s most experienced professional rugby players. The 48-test Flying Fijian has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning Super Rugby Pacific and Europe, making 74 professional appearances for some of the game’s top clubs.
His Super Rugby journey includes stints with the NSW Waratahs, where he earned nine caps and scored two tries, the Crusaders (seven caps, one try), Melbourne Rebels (11 caps), and Queensland Reds (seven caps).
In Europe, he represented French powerhouse Racing 92, making 30 appearances and scoring two tries, before joining England’s Leicester Tigers, where he played 10 matches and scored one try.
Volavola brings a wealth of experience, leadership, game management, and professionalism to the Drua environment.
The veteran fly-half said he was thrilled to return home and grateful for the opportunity to join the Fijian Drua.
“I’m excited to come back home with my family and join everyone at the club. I want to help build a culture that brings even more success to the Drua. I’m also looking forward to seeing all the fans, playing at home, and spending time with supporters after games throughout the season,” Volavola said.
Fijian Drua General Manager Rugby Baden Stephenson welcomed the experienced playmaker back to Fiji.
“We are delighted to welcome Ben back home to Fiji and into the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua family. He brings a wealth of experience from playing at the highest levels of the game, including Super Rugby Pacific, international rugby, and two Rugby World Cups with Fiji,” Stephenson said.
Stephenson added that Volavola has always been passionate about contributing to Fijian rugby and believes his experience and mentorship will play a key role in helping develop the next generation of Drua and Flying Fijians players.
