WARWICK Hotels and Resorts plans to invest close to $200 million across the Pacific over the next 30 months, with the bulk of the investment earmarked for Fiji as the group expands and upgrades its properties.

Warwick founder and president Richard Chiu said the Pacific was becoming increasingly important to the group, despite its hotels in the United States and Europe continuing to contribute the larger share of its revenue and profit.

Mr Chiu said the group was expanding several of its existing properties in Fiji.

At Tokatoka Resort Nadi, the group was adding 82 rooms, a 550-square-metre ballroom, a new swimming pool and additional food and beverage facilities.

At The Naviti Resort, Warwick was adding another 100 rooms, along with other facilities and a new swimming pool.

Mr Chiu said Warwick was also adding 100 rooms and other facilities to its resort in Vanuatu.

“Our plans in this part of the world is continuing,” he said.

He said the group was also undertaking substantial upgrading and renovation works across its resorts in the region.

“We expect to invest close to $200 million in the next 30 months. The bulk of that will be in this country, in Fiji.”

Mr Chiu said Warwick was also exploring opportunities elsewhere in the Pacific, including in Solomon Islands, where the company had been invited to assess several sites and participate in the country’s tourism development.

“So we intend to continue to expand and invest in this country and around the region.”

Mr Chiu said the company’s Fiji operations had remained persistently profitable.
