A FAMILY in Nabua, Suva, was hospitalised after suffering suspected fish poisoning following a Sunday lunch of Ogo.
Ruci Cika said several members of her household developed severe symptoms within hours of eating the fish she had prepared.
“We were poisoned,” Ms Cika claimed.
“After we ate, around 2 to 3pm, our stomachs started to hurt, including the children. We were vomiting and constantly going to the toilet.”
She said her daughter was among the first to become seriously ill.
“One of my daughters was rushed to CWM Hospital as her case was very serious. After half an hour, I also became very weak in my body, the same with my grandchildren, so all went to the CWM Hospital.”
Ms Cika said other family members later became ill and were taken to the hospital, including her husband.
She said everyone who ate the fish was admitted.
Several other individuals have reported cases of fish poisoning but Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa said the ministry was not aware of any reported fish poisoning cases.
He said any verified information would be shared through the ministry’s media channels.
Questions sent to the Ministry of Fisheries remained unanswered.
