A 35-YEAR-OLD carpenter has been sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment for the rape and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Navua.
The man was sentenced by Justice Daniel Goundar in the High Court in Suva yesterday after being convicted of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The court heard that on January 2 this year, the man forced the victim into her bedroom, overpowered her by holding her hands, removed her clothing, and had sexual intercourse with her without consent while also subjecting her to indecent touching.
The man will be eligible for parole after serving 10 years of his head sentence.
