Head of Fiji’s COVID-19 vaccine taskforce Dr Rachel Devi says none of the staff members administering more than 20,000 vaccinations in Lautoka were staff members from the Lautoka Hospital.
She said she understood the concerns of members of the public but it was important for residents to know that the nurses administering the vaccines were part of their Public Health Unit.
“So they basically look after, for example, in Lautoka, we have got the public health staffs that are looking after Lautoka and Yasawa subdivision,” she said.
“The way our health system is structured is there are the hospital services and there are the public health services.
“Any vaccination program that is happening in the country, the staff is all public health staff because it is those nurses that are the experts in the vaccination program, not the hospital staff.”
