It was a good Easter weekend for Fijians as both the Fijian Drua men and women secured victories in their matches against the Western Force at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.
The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women returned to winning ways in round three of Super W as they defeated the Force 19-5, straight after the men dismantled the visitors 31-13.
Mosese Rauluni’s team played their last home match of the season yesterday and left the ground giving spectators reasons to celebrate and support them.
While the Force threatened them in the early minutes of the game, the Drua stood their ground with the tall figures of Sulita Waisega, Asinate Serevi and Jade Coates leading the pack.
They turned the tables 15 minutes in with a scrum set-piece that saw captain Karalaini Naisewa pick the ball from the base of the scrum before offloading for Waisega who dived through at the corner for their first try.
Speedster Adita Milinia proved why she’s lethal on the flanks when given space as she ran through the defenders with a show of individual brilliance to dot down their second.
Luisa Tisolo added the extra two from the conversion as the Drua led 12-0 at halftime.
Indisicipline haunted the Fijian side as the muddy condition worsened, seeing Naisewa and Vika Matarugu sinbinned.
This gave the Force the number advantge to sneak in their first try.
Handling errors was the Drua’s worst enemy from the initial half but a positive takeaway was the momentous efforts 9f the forwards who played a huge role in the second 40.
Merewai Cumu sealed the result in the 49th minute with a flying finish at the left corner which left the Force with a wound that they could not recover from.
The Drua travel to Canberra next week where they face the Brumbies in round four.
