The European Union says its partnership with Fiji and the Pacific is growing stronger amid rising global uncertainty.
Speaking at the Europe Day, EU Ambassador Barbara Plinkert said the relationship between Europe, Fiji and the region was deepening through co-operation on climate change, ocean governance, trade, renewable energy, digital connectivity and resilient infrastructure.
Ms Plinkert said Europe Day marked the vision that led to the creation of the European Union, based on peace, unity and co-operation after years of conflict.
However, they said the values of freedom, equality and democracy were now under pressure around the world, including in the Pacific.
“Pacific countries, including Fiji, had supported Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in international forums,” Mr Plinkert said.
She reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomacy in Fiji and the wider Pacific.
