Former All Blacks star Christian Cullen will return to Fiji next year as the official ambassador for the 2027 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s, while also becoming the 20th inductee into the RugbyTown Walk of Fame.
Cullen, famously known as the “Paekākāriki Express”, will be honoured during the tournament’s 15th edition at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, from January 14-16, 2027.
The former New Zealand fullback first made his mark in rugby sevens before establishing himself as one of the most dangerous attacking players in international rugby. He went on to earn 58 Test caps and score 46 tries for the All Blacks.
Tournament founder and chairman Jay Whyte said Cullen’s connection with sevens made his induction particularly significant.
“Before the world knew him as an All Blacks superstar, sevens provided a stage for that incredible speed, footwork and attacking instinct,” Whyte said.
He added that Cullen’s attacking approach had made him a popular figure among Fijian rugby fans.
Cullen will take part in tournament activities and engage with teams, supporters and the wider rugby community during his visit.
The RugbyTown Walk of Fame in Sigatoka recognises players who have made significant contributions to rugby sevens and the global game. Cullen will join 19 other rugby legends whose achievements are commemorated at the venue.
The 2027 Coral Coast 7s will feature 24 men’s, 12 women’s and 16 youth teams, with international teams competing alongside Fiji’s leading sevens players.
Organisers said the event would continue to offer free entry to Lawaqa Park, allowing fans to watch international stars, emerging players and rugby legends in action.
