“MAKE sure they see the best versions of us representing our country ensuring exactly what it means to be in a white jumper,” Vodafone 7s coach Gareth Baber told his players during their jersey presentation yesterday.
“It doesn’t get any better than this, you are playing for your country. It’s your responsibility to deliver what you always deliver during training sessions.”
The jersey presentation was
held at the Sheraton Wall Centre Vancouver in the presence of Fiji’s honorary consul in Canada, Bobby Naicker, Fiji’s first secretary in Washington, Akuila Vuira and former national sevens coach and player, Waisale Serevi.
“Our big job this weekend is to do as a 12 and do it consistently every time we take the field. It’s a hard ask, it’s a challenge that’s why we as coaches, we put challenges in front of you all the time so you can become better versions of yourself.
“Why we put you through hard training sessions and make sacrifices.”
Baber said the jersey presentation symbolised a lot of things and he told the players that it symbolised where they came from, the sacrifices they had created and the support for their country.
“Makes you realise how important it is…what we do.”
Baber also recalled his playing days and what it was like playing against Serevi.
“I was in the red jersey and he was in the white jersey. But I knew every time that I came against him I knew I had to be the best version of myself.
“And every time that is exactly what other players feel when they come against the white jersey.
“�?�and you need to be the best versions of yourself.”
Fiji is in the same pool as Wales, Argentina and Samoa.
