Suffering from asthma at a young age, Rikshit Bhan has learned to see his condition as a compass directing him to his dream.
His condition has pushed him to want to help people – making him work towards becoming a doctor one day.
Leaving with the condition has instilled a strong desire for Bhan to be a medical professional who can provide support to students who face similar health challenges as he did in school.
As the head boy for Rishikul Sanatan College, Bhan today with the help of his student council looks after a huge number of students.
His story is a testament that anyone can achieve anything in life if they work towards it.
“As someone who suffers from asthma, I would continuously be absent from school,” he said.
“Being absent for a long time meant having a lot of work to catch up on when I return to school.
“These experiences have instilled in me a strong desire to become a medical professional.
“Wanting to be a doctor is rooted in my personal experiences, especially those long hours spent in the hospitals with my mother and my father who provided the invaluable care and support I needed.
“The experience has taught me the importance of empathy and compassion towards others.”
The Year 13 student is studying pure science at Rishikul with dedication and determination.
“I am striving to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to gain admission into an MBBS program.”
Even though he missed out on a lot of school work because of his illness, he has learned to appreciate the help he receives from school and he is committed to achieving his dream.
It was also the support and encouragement of his teachers that made him love studying.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude towards the esteemed educators who have contributed significantly to my academic growth and personal development.
“Their unrelenting support, guidance, and mentorship have been instrumental in shaping my academic and professional journey.
“Their unwavering commitment to education and their students is truly commendable, and I feel privileged to have been under their tutelage.
“I am indebted to them for their constant encouragement, wisdom, and valuable insights that have helped me achieve my goals and reach where I am today.
“I will always cherish their contributions and remain forever grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from them.
“With their support, I have been able to overcome obstacles, push my boundaries, and achieve my goals.”
He said students should not hesitate to approach their teachers when they experience difficulties in understanding a concept as teachers are always there to provide guidance to students.
He also thanked his parents for their unwavering support over the years.
“I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude towards my parents for their unwavering support and love, which they have provided to me during the most challenging times.
“I strongly believe that without their consistent assistance and encouragement, I would not be where I am today.”
This year he hopes to lead by example and be a good role model to his peers before he goes on his journey of becoming a doctor.
He hopes to one day make a positive impact in his community through health care in the future.
