The total loan amount provided under the Transport Infrastructure Investment Sector Project by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and World Bank is $350 million.

Infrastructure Minister Jone Usamate said this while speaking during the debate on “Review of the 2017-2018 Whole of Government Audit Reports (Consolidated Report)” in Parliament on Monday.

He said $121 million from the total amount had already been drawn down.

“Work continues to be done, utilising this fund from the World Bank and ADB and the rest of the fund is now committed to the upgrade of the Kings and Queens road,” Mr Usamate said. He said substantive work was being carried out to upgrade the Kings and Queens roads.

“And the other portion of that fund is now being used, as it’s been mentioned a few times in the house, is the design of the 40 critical bridges that we have identified, including the 100s of bridges in Fiji that need to be fixed.”

He said the design of the Nabouwalu jetty, Natovi jetty and the Savusavu jetty were also included in these funds.

“Portion of that money is being used for the design of those 40 bridges and also the design of the three jetties that we need to improve immediately.”
