ASSISTANT Minister for Agriculture Jale Sigarara believes backyard farming can alleviate poverty.

While donating packs of seedlings to farmers of Labasa at Naseakula village this morning, Mr Sigarara said backyard farming could also be a source of nutrition to most households around the country.

“Considering these benefits and ensuring that no one is left behind, the Ministry is implementing the backyard gardening program to target urban and peri-urban areas,” he said.

“Many of those living in urban and peri-urban areas are always challenged by limited land area and space for planting compared to those in rural areas.”
