FOUR children have been involved in separate road accidents across Fiji in just two days, leaving an eight-year-old dead and two others in hospital as the country heads into the school holidays.
According to police, the eight-year-old boy was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man on the Queens Rd at Vakabalea, Navua on Tuesday evening.
Police said the man was expected to be questioned as investigations continue.
In another incident, police also reported two children aged eight and nine were struck by a vehicle along Adi Davila Rd in Nakasi on Wednesday.
The children allegedly crossed in front of a parked bus when they were hit by a vehicle. Both remain admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.
In a separate incident on Narewa Rd in Nadi, a nine-year-old girl was crossing the road when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a 52-year-old.
Police confirmed she is in stable condition at the Lautoka Aspen Hospital.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe has urged motorists and families to take greater care, particularly with school holidays and large gatherings expected across the country.
