THE Fiji Amateur Boxing team is currently preparing 13 talented boxers to compete in the upcoming New Zealand Invitational competition at the end of the month.
Head coach Cameron Todd is pleased to announce that they will be taking their youths and juniors aged between 14-19 years old, providing them with a valuable opportunity to showcase their skills on a larger platform.
He adds this trip to New Zealand is not only about competition but also about international development.
“The team will have the chance to participate in joint training sessions with New Zealand boxers, which will undoubtedly contribute to our growth and experience in the sport,” said Todd.
While Coach Todd is in the process of selecting a team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, he recognises the importance of focusing on the development of young athletes.
“For Fiji Boxers development stage is going well, and while I’m also busy choosing a team for commonwealth games, I need to also keep focusing on our young athletes because they are our future, and we have a lot of talent in that.
“The young boxers, aged 13-19, show immense potential and strength, making it crucial to nurture and support them for future success.”
Todd expresses his gratitude to the parents for entrusting their children to participate in the sport of boxing and commends the young boxers for their dedication and passion for the sport.
The team will leave for New Zealand on October 23.
