A FIJIAN youth leader has urged the Coalition Government to abandon proposed changes to the Constitution and direct national attention towards pressing social and economic struggles.
One Nation Our People Youth Club founder Abdul Zorhab raised these concerns in his written submissions regarding Bill No. 32, the Constitution (Amendment) Bill.
He questioned whether moving forward with the amendment process was necessary while ordinary citizens faced severe hardship.
“Stop the amendment, focus on Fiji, focus on the people,” he said
Mr Zorhab highlighted a growing list of critical issues affecting daily life across the country, including the high cost of living, unemployment, rising crime, and a struggling agricultural sector.
He also pointed to serious social challenges, such as the ongoing HIV crisis, increasing drug-related cases, school dropouts, and the mass migration of Fijians seeking better opportunities abroad.
Instead of rushing constitutional reform through Parliament ahead of the 2026 general election, Mr Zorhab stressed that the administration led by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka should prioritise relief for struggling families and communities.
“Our people need relief, our farmers need support.
“Our young people need jobs and opportunities. Our communities need safety, and our economy needs stronger foundations.
“The question is not simply what can be amended in our Constitution. The question is: what are we doing to improve the lives of the people who live under it?”
