Water situation: Burst main affects supply to Labasa residents

Listen to this article:

A 375mm burst main along Vunikawakawa in Labasa is the cause of the low to intermittent supply of water being faced by residents in the northern town.

According to the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF), the burst main has caused a low to no inflow of raw water to the Benau water treatment plant.

The areas affected as a result of this are Siberia, Vunivau, Basoga, Vatunibale, Bulileka, Soasoa, Cawaira, Tovata, Rara, Lajonia, Wailevu,  Tiri, Qelewaqa, Labasa Town, Tuatua, Delailabasa,  Nabekavu, Navakasigani, Solove and Bocalevu.

“Our ground teams are working around the clock to restore supply,” WAF stated.

Water carting trucks are on standby to service the affected areas during this disruption period and water supply is expected to be normalised by late Friday night to early Saturday morning.

The authority has advised customers residing in those areas to store and use water wisely for their immediate needs during this temporary disruption period.
