The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua team needs three more wins to secure their spot in the Super Rugby quarter-finals.

This, according to head coach Mick Byrne.

“We had our four victories and if we can win three more games, it will guarantee us a spot in the quarter-finals.

“We have two home games and three away games,” Byrne said.

Currently in seventh place with 17 points, Byrne acknowledged the challenge ahead, emphasising the unpredictability of the competition, especially when playoff positions are at stake.

The Drua play the Brumbies in its next match at 9.35pm this Saturday.

“There’s a challenge for us there are teams around us that are playing top sides there is no guarantee in this competition especially when the finals positions are on the line its really important that we keep winning,” Byrne said.

It’s highly likely that Elia Canakaivata will miss this Saturday’s game because of a knee injury.

” Elia’s knees not too good and I don’t know whether he will make selection this week because he has missed training today and everyone else trained.

“But we will see how Elia will pull up but he probably will miss this week,” Byrne added.

The side were not happy after their 24-17 victory over Moana Pasifika last weekend and Byrne believes on making each chances count especially going for bonus point at this stage of competition.

“After the game against Moana Pasifika I was quite disappointed in the changing room and all the players were disappointed with that victory.

“When you win, you have to keep winning, ensuring your future is in your hands, rather than relying on other teams’ outcomes to qualify,” Byrne explained.

With their focus now on Saturday’s match against one of the top teams in Australia, Byrne highlighted the team’s dedication and preparation.

“The players came in Monday and focused for the job ahead getting their game right and we had a little bit of physical session on the field.

“The boys are really looking forward to go to Canberra. The Brumbies defeated Hurricanes last weekend, so chance for us to challenge ourselves with one of the best teams in Australia.”
