Vunivalu of Rewa dies at 85

The Vunivalu of Rewa, Ro Epeli Vakacaracara Mataitini, has died aged 85.

Ro Mataitini passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, October 18, 2020.

In a statement issued last night, his son Ro Alipate Mataitini said traditional notifications and representations had been made Fiji-wide and abroad to those with family and traditional links to the Vunivalu’s household.

Ro Alipate said public condolence gatherings in Rewa would be open from Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

Ro Mataitini was a member of the iTaukei Affairs Board, the iTaukei Land Trust and the Rewa Provincial Development Holdings Limited.

He is a former Senator and was a member of the Native Lands Appeals Tribunal.

Ro Mataitini will be laid at his final resting place in Lomanikoro, Rewa, on Friday, October 23.

He is survived by seven children, 33 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
