US national in custody for uttering the word ‘bomb’

AN American national was arrested on Monday after he uttered the word “bomb” to a security officer at the Nadi International Airport.

The 30-year-old man was checking in for the Nadi-Los Angeles flight and was having his bags cleared at the X-ray machine when the incident happened.

He was alleged to have said the word “bomb” to the security officer.

Border police were informed and the man was arrested and struck off the FJ810 flight to Los Angeles. Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident to this newspaper.

“A man was arrested and questioned and remains in custody,” she said.

Under the Civil Aviation Security Regulation 1994, it is an offence to make threats of any type that could endanger the lives of passengers of an airline.
