TO mark the 50th Anniversary celebration of the University of the South Pacific, Niue USP facilitated a “Moment to shine” debate focusing on the topic: Development in the South Pacific has significantly improved in the last 50 years because of USP’s contribution.
Members of the debating teams were USP Alumni from both the private and the public sector including the Director of Education and Head of Police.
The debate generated interesting talk points from both teams and while the negative team raised some key problems such as political instability in the region and that USP and its alumni are not doing enough, the Campus Director Mr Seone Lolesio said the debate itself was very healthy with both the teams equally prepared.
“It certainly created the interactive platform as a part of Niue Campus’ 50th anniversary celebration.
“While USP alumni in Niue are playing a key role, the debate session highlighted the need for a great and more active role by them,” he added.
Participants thanked USP Niue Campus for such an interesting initiative.
Vice President Regional Campuses and Estates and Infrastructure, Dr Giulio Paunga in his closing remark thanked the Niue Campus and alumni for their active role during the “Moment to Shine” saying that such initiatives further enhance the role of USP and its alumni.
