BASKETBALL Fiji’s national Under-15 girls coach Grace Tora is prioritising attitude, discipline and teamwork as the team prepares for the FIBA Oceania Cup 2026 in Auckland, New Zealand.
Tora highlighted the importance of developing the players’ character alongside their technical skills as the extended squad continues training ahead of the final selection.
The team focused on improving its defensive and offensive play during yesterday’s training session, with Tora keen to ensure the players understand their roles on both ends of the court.
She said attitude remained the main priority, while discipline and work ethic would follow as the players continued their development.
Tora said selecting the right combination of players was equally important, with individual talent and the ability to fit into the team’s overall structure both considered during the selection process.
“This is a big step and stage for the girls. This is what we have been working on since day one,” Tora said.
She said the training programme was part of the team’s ongoing preparation to identify players capable of representing Fiji at the international tournament.
Following the selection of the 25-player squad, the next phase will focus on further developing the players before another round of cuts is made for a final 12-member squad to determine the final national team for Auckland.
