DREKETI FC’s victory in the 2026 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) senior division was more than a team achievement for Mohammed Alaam and his son, Mohammed Ezaaz Alaam, who played alongside each other in the final against Bua last Sunday.

Dreketi won 1-0 over Bua at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

At 42, Mohammed Alaam continues to feature as a goalkeeper, while his 20-year-old son Ezaaz plays in the mid-field, making their team’s triumph a special family moment.

Alaam, said sharing the victory with his son made the achievement even more memorable, knowing how difficult it was to win the tournament division.

“It feels good. Winning a tournament feels good,” Alaam said.

“We have done it together and winning the IDC is not an easy job, but we did it.”

Alaam said the team faced a tough challenge but benefited from having a strong squad and a clear game plan.

“It was tough, but we had a good team playing and a good game plan,” he said.

Having played football since 2002, Alaam said he was looking forward to continuing his journey in the sport alongside his son and teammates.

The experienced goalkeeper said victory was dedicated to the supporters who stood by the team throughout the competition, as well as their families.

The father-and-son duo also reflects a family tradition of football, with Alaam coming from a family of players.

Their partnership on the field offered a special highlight in Dreketi’s IDC campaign as father and son shared the same colors, worked towards the same goal and shared the same success.

For Alaam, the triumph was not only about lifting the IDC trophy but also creating a lasting memory with his son through the game they both love.
