THE Health Ministry is concerned with improper toilet facilities in villages.

Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said it was vital for villagers to have one toilet per household.

His concerns followed an outbreak of typhoid in some parts of Naitasiri earlier this month.

Dr Waqainabete said upon visitation to some of these villages, health officials had noticed that there were villagers who were actually sharing toilets which was not supposed to be the case.

However, Dr Waqainabete said the ministry would assist in the construction of toilets in these villages under their special projects grant.

“I have seen that those villages affected are already beginning to see them secure a clean water supply for the village and they have issues with toilets. “Not all the village households have a toilet,” he said.

“They have begun to make toilets for those houses that do not have them so that will be done under the ministry’s special projects grant. “So for those that do not have toilets, we are putting in toilets for them — water seals to begin with.”
