THIRTY-THREE volunteers from the Rosie Travel Group of Companies marked World Tourism Day on September 27 by devoting a full day of community service at Koroipita Township, located outside Lautoka.

Koroipita features more than 350 cyclone-certified homes offering low-income families access to running water, electricity, recreational facilities, and family advancement programmes.

Employees representing Rosie Holidays, Rosie Outsourcing, Likuliku Lagoon Resort and Malolo Island Resort joined forces to install accessible footpaths for the township’s aged care facility and kindergarten.

The team also painted doors for homes under construction and planted flowers across the settlement, which houses approximately 1400 residents.

In a statement, Rosie Travel Group CSR representative Shama Hassan highlighted the balance between emerging technology and human connection.

While artificial intelligence is reshaping the industry, she said tourism remained primarily about people.

“While technology continues to change the way we do things, as a company we never lose sight that tourism is about real people and at the heart of everything we do at Rosie is a genuine belief that tourism can improve the social and economic well-being of every Fijian,” Ms Hassan said.

She said that volunteers spent the day constructing footpaths so elderly residents and kindergarten children could move around safely, while also visiting the Expedia-Rosie Learning Centre opened by the group in 2024.

Koroipita Model Township acting general manager Ranjini Pratap commended the long-standing partnership with Rosie Holidays having invested in the community since 2005 by building homes, pathways and playgrounds.

“It’s good to see the next generation of the Rosie and Ahura Resorts family energised to continue serving here and showing again how the tourism dollar circulates to everyone in Fiji, even those in remote communities,” Ms Pratap said.
