FUEL and LPG prices are going up from today, with diesel recording the biggest increase among the major fuel products.
The revised prices, announced by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), will take effect today following its latest review of international refined fuel prices, LPG costs, freight rates and exchange rate movements linked to August imports.
On Viti Levu, within three kilometres of a public road, petrol will increase by five cents to $3.15 a litre, while diesel will rise by 21 cents to $3.41.
Kerosene will increase by 10 cents to $2.67 a litre. For areas of Viti Levu beyond three kilometres from a public road, petrol will rise to $3.19 a litre and diesel to $3.45.
On Vanua Levu and Ovalau, petrol will increase to between $3.18 and $3.21 a litre depending on location, while diesel will range from $3.44 to $3.47.
Rotuma will record the highest regulated prices, with petrol increasing by six cents to $3.72 a litre and diesel rising by 22 cents to $3.98.
LPG prices are also increasing. A 4.5kg cylinder on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu will rise by 82 cents to $15.81, while the 12kg cylinder will increase by $2.20 to $42.16.
On Rotuma, the same cylinders will rise by $1.07 and $2.86 respectively, reaching $20.57 and $54.86.
“These increases reflect continued volatility in international petroleum and LPG markets, including geopolitical tensions, higher crude oil prices, supply disruptions and elevated freight costs,” the commission said.
“OPEC Reference Basket increased by US$3.45 a barrel in August to an average of US$86.44.”
The new prices will be legally enforceable from October 1, with retailers prohibited from charging above the regulated maximum prices.
