FIJI Bati hopeful and Saru Dragons fullback Senivalati Vunibola Jr once again showcased his menacing form, playing a pivotal role in his team’s 20-10 victory over the Nadera Panthers last week, securing their place in the Vodafone Cup finals.
His powerful runs, line breaks, composure under high balls, and bone-crunching tackles underscored his significant contribution to the Dragons — which earned him a spot in the Fiji Bati 40-member extended squad for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup in Australia later this year..
Vunibola Jr’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed. Fiji Bulikula head coach and former Fiji Bati forward Jone Wesele singled him out as one of the competition’s top performers.
“Senivalati really stood out today and was instrumental in his team’s win. It’s clear he has been through the furnace, having been with the Silktails a few years ago, and I hope the national coach takes notice,” Wesele said.
As the Dragons prepare to face the confident Navy Albatross in the Vodafone Cup grand final this weekend, Wesele anticipates a monumental clash between the two best teams in the competition.
“Senivalati just needs to keep doing what he loves — carrying the ball with power and skill. Navy Albatross have some strong players, so it will be a real challenge for him. He will definitely be a player to watch,” Wesele explained.
“With Navy’s talent, it’s set to be a thrilling contest next week.”
This week’s grand final will also be Vuniboal Jr’s final chance to impress Fiji Bati head coach Mick Potter on the field. The final squad will be named in October 4.
The Fiji National Rugby League were yet to confirm the Vodafone Cup and FNRLW Premiership finals fixtures for this weekend when this edition went to press.
